President’s Comments

Summer 2008

I wanted to take a moment to share my excitement in taking over the reigns as President of the Sunflower Chapter.  Thank you for this opportunity and I look forward to leading the Chapter to another great year of educational programs, communications, and networking events.

I had the opportunity to attend ANI a few weeks ago and experience an amazing event.  The Sunflower Chapter received the Robert M. Shelton Award for Sustained Excellence, one of the most prestigious awards a chapter can receive.  This award is presented each year to the chapter judged as displaying exemplary service to members over a sustained period of the immediate past five years.  Congratulations to Angie Martin, Terry Pound, Charles Ashley, Vicki Mills, Cheryl Mason and all the volunteers who helped to achieve this recognition.  In addition to the Shelton Award the chapter received the C. Henry Hottum award for educational performance improvement, a Gold award for excellence in education, a Bronze award for excellence in membership growth and retention, a Bronze award for excellence in certification and a Yerger award for professional excellence in certification.  Thanks to all the volunteers for your involvement and commitment to meeting our members’ needs and making the Sunflower Chapter one of the leading chapters in the nation.

HFMA’s theme for this year is “Making Connections”.  Making a personal connection with other healthcare finance professionals is a valuable element of HFMA membership.  One of the best ways to make personal connections is to get involved in the chapter.  If you haven’t become involved in the chapter through a committee, but would like to get connected, please contact me.  There are many opportunities for matching your skills and interests with the needs of your fellow HFMA members.

On a final note I would like to express my sincere thanks to Angie Martin for her excellent leadership during her tenure as President as well as her countless volunteer hours in support of the chapter over the years.  Most of you probably know that Angie will be retiring from Blue Cross and Blue Shield in August.  Even though she will be taking it easy, she still plans on continuing to support the chapter over the next year.  When you see Angie be sure and thank her for her past and continued service to the chapter.
